Sneak Peek: Delirium by Lauren Oliver

I just wrote my review for Delirium by Lauren Oliver today. Delirium doesn’t release until February 1, 2011 so I scheduled my review to post on January 24 but I can’t just let it go without pointing as many people as possible to this book.

Here’s what my “overall” comment was:

A brutal society where love is disguised as a disease and is ultimately tragically and beautifully worth fighting for.

There’s so much more to it than that but that pretty much sums up my thoughts. The society really isn’t “brutal” but any society that prohibits the feeling of love is brutal in my book.

There’s an excerpt on HarperTeen of the first chapter. While it’s not much it’s a good teaser to grab your interest. Click icon for the direct link to the pdf.

Summary (Goodreads)

Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that one love -the deliria- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the governments demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.
But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.

So, add this one to your to-be-read lists. It’s definitely worth the wait.

Torment will be released September 28, 2010.

Book 1, Fallen is available and feel free to read my review.

Series

  Fallen by Lauren Kate

There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.
Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.
Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce–and goes out of his way to make that very clear–she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.  —Goodreads
