Harlequin Teen | September 25, 2012 | 416 pages

Summary (Goodreads)

She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real….

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….

I wish I could go back and do a thousand things differently.
I’d tell my sister no.
I’d never beg my mother to talk to my dad.
I’d zip my lips and swallow those hateful words.
Or, barring all of that, I’d hug my sister, my mom and my dad one last time.
I’d tell them I love them.
I wish… Yeah, I wish.

Gena’s Top 5 Quotes from AiZ

“I hope Rina gave you an STD.” (said by Kat Parker)

“Cole once ate a pound of rusty nails  and claimed it tasted like unicorn tears mixed with fairy dust.  True story.  I was there.” (said by Kat Parker)

It was like we were on a screen playing the newest reality show—Survivor: Asher High—and they were our trusted viewers. (thought by Alice Bell)

“I’m not going to bite you.  Not tonight anyway.” (said by Cole Holland)

[amazon_link id=”1442436646″ target=”_blank” ]Poison Princess (Arcana Chronicles, Book 1)[/amazon_link] by Kresley Cole

October 2, 2012 | Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers | 384 pages

Summary (Goodreads)

#1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole introduces The Arcana Chronicles, post-apocalyptic tales filled with riveting action, the dark mysticism of Tarot cards, and breathtaking romance. She could save the world—or destroy it.

Sixteen year old Evangeline “Evie” Greene leads a charmed life, until she begins experiencing horrifying hallucinations. When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future—and they’re still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.

But she can’t do either alone.

With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can’t totally depend on Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?

Who can Evie trust?

As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of twenty-two teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it’s not always clear who is on which side….

Well, I got to page 89 before I threw in the towel. I just couldn’t like this one and I really wanted to. I did like that it was trying to be super original. However, it fell flat with the writing narration, the attempt to be too cool or too teen or something. And the characters were dull and unlikeable. Also, there is little to no explanation as to what the hell was going on! I am a fan of Kresley’s adult books but this one had nothing on the awesomeness that Gena Showalter does in her YA series. I have to thank Goodreads reviewer Baby T-Rex because she pin points all the areas I disliked and made me feel like I wasn’t the only one having the issue of disliking this title.

Summary (Goodreads)

Around the world, black hand prints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

I am currently up to page 94 and LOVE. This book is gorgeous, wonderful, beautiful, amazing. It had me from the second page. The opening reminded me a lot of [amazon_link id=”0316056634″ target=”_blank” ]Soulless[/amazon_link] by Gail Carriger and this book has nothing to do with vampires but it was just awesome. Beautifully written, so very, very original and I can’t wait to read the rest!

Here’s the part that had me hooked.

She held her coffee mug in one hand and clutched her coat closed with the other. An artists’s portfolio was slung over her shoulder, and her hair — loose, long and peacock blue — was gathering a lace of snowflakes.

    Just another day.

    And then.

A snarl, rushing footfall, and she was seized from behind, pulled hard against a man’s broad chest as hands yanked her scarf askew and she felt — teeth — against her neck.

    Nibbling.

    Her attacher was nibbling her.

LOVE. Hooked.

I’ve Been Quoted! My First Quote!!!!

I’ve been quoted!

I couldn’t be more happier today after opening the long awaited package from Harlequin Teen!

Way back in early March Natashya of Harlequin emailed me to ask permission to use a quote of mine from my UNRAVELED review. Um, YES! Please!

I was so excited at that point but that had nothing on today’s excitement.

My 8 year-old daughter thought I’d gone crazy and my 14 month-old son danced along in his high chair.

Without further ado here’s the first page of the ARC edition of Gena Showalter’s ALICE IN ZOMBIELAND!

My Quote in ALICE IN ZOMBIELAND

A shout out to long time fellow blogger, Jessica at a GREAT Read on her quote too!

You’ll want to grab a copy of this when it comes out in September!

In My Mailbox: Week 22

I just wrote my Post BEA 2010 post so check it out to see what I got at BEA!

This week I got two books in the mail.

Both are technically for review but one is extra special because I wanted to grab it at BEA but she wasn’t signing it on Wednesday when I was there but Thursday. She was so thoughtful to save me a copy and then ship it herself to me!

Thank you so much Gena!

And author Carolyn Crane sent me her new release:

  Mind Games by Carolyn Crane

JUSTINE KNOWS SHE’S GOING TO DIE. ANY SECOND NOW.
Justine Jones has a secret. A hardcore hypochondriac, she’s convinced a blood vessel is about to burst in her brain. Then, out of the blue, a startlingly handsome man named Packard peers into Justine’s soul and invites her to join his private crime-fighting team. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime deal. With a little of Packard’s hands-on training, Justine can weaponize her neurosis, turning it outward on Midcity’s worst criminals, and finally get the freedom from fear she’s always craved. End of problem.
Or is it? In Midcity, a dashing police chief is fighting a unique breed of outlaw with more than human powers. And while Justine’s first missions, including one against a nymphomaniac husband-killer, are thrilling successes, there is more to Packard than meets the eye. Soon, while battling her attraction to two very different men, Justine is plunging deeper into a world of wizardry, eroticism, and cosmic secrets. With Packard’s help, Justine has freed herself from her madness—only to discover a reality more frightening than anyone’s worst fears. – Amazon.com

Thanks Carolyn! I’ll be getting to this soon.
