Prague, early May. The sky weighted gray over fairy-tale rooftops, and all the world was watching.

Summary (Goodreads)

In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Karou must come to terms with who and what she is, and how far she’ll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, mysteries and secrets, new characters and old favorites, Days of Blood and Starlight brings the richness, color and intensity of the first book to a brand new canvas.

So far it’s pretty good. A little slow but I have faith it will be a great read.

Summary (Goodreads)

Within the walls of Baalboden, beneath the shadow of the city’s brutal leader, Rachel Adams has a secret. While other girls sew dresses and obey their male Protectors, Rachel knows how to survive in the wilderness and deftly wield a sword. When her father, Jared, fails to return from a courier mission and is declared dead, the Commander assigns Rachel a new Protector, her father’s apprentice, Logan–the same boy Rachel declared her love for two years ago, and the same one who handed her heart right back to her. Left with nothing but a fierce belief in her father’s survival, Rachel decides to escape and find him herself. But treason against the Commander carries a heavy price, and what awaits her in the Wasteland could destroy her.

At nineteen, Logan McEntire is many things. Orphan. Outcast. Inventor. As apprentice to the city’s top courier, Logan is focused on learning his trade so he can escape the tyranny of Baalboden. But his plan never included being responsible for his mentor’s impulsive daughter. Logan is determined to protect her, but when his escape plan goes wrong and Rachel pays the price, he realizes he has more at stake than disappointing Jared.

As Rachel and Logan battle their way through the Wasteland, stalked by a monster that can’t be killed and an army of assassins out for blood, they discover romance, heartbreak, and a truth that will incite a war decades in the making.

“Are you sure about this?” Jace hesitated, one hand gripping a bare branch overhead, the other poised over his zipper.

And that’s JUST the beginning of this romp that is the last Shifters book from Rachel Vincent.

Another great big thank you to NetGalley, Rachel Vincent, and the lovely people at Harlequin.

First Line Friday: The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

This weeks First Line comes from my current read, The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff, which is a very interesting book.

I don’t remember any of the true, important parts, but there’s this dream I have.

The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

Mackie Doyle seems like everyone else in the perfect little town of Gentry, but he is living with a fatal secret – he is a Replacement, left in the crib of a human baby sixteen years ago. Now the creatures under the hill want him back, and Mackie must decide where he really belongs and what he really wants.
A month ago, Mackie might have told them to buzz off. But now, with a budding relationship with tough, wounded, beautiful Tate, Mackie has too much to lose. Will love finally make him worthy of the human world? – Goodreads

352 pages

Razorbill, (2010-09-21)

$17.99 (Amazon.com, Hardcover)

I’ve got about 1/8th of it left to read and I’m really looking forward to seeing how this ends. I’m a big fan of Mackie’s. If you like Tim Burton’s work you’ll love this book.

First Line Friday: Matched by Ally Condie

This week I bring you the first line to an amazing book. I loved this. I finished it last night and I can’t wait to read more about this world.

If you haven’t already, put this book on your To Be Read list because it is awesome. A beautifully written dystopia.

The first line is italicized in the book because it’s a thought that Cassia is having, not something she’s actually doing but in a sense she really does do.

Now that I’ve found the way to fly, which direction should I go into the night?

  Matched by Ally Condie

In the Society, Officials decide. Who you love. Where you work. When you die.
Cassia has always trusted their choices. It’s barely any price to pay for a long life, the perfect job, the ideal mate. So when her best friend appears on the Matching screen, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is the one . . . until she sees another face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. Now Cassia is faced with impossible choices: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path no one else has ever dared follow—between perfection and passion.
Matched is a story for right now and storytelling with the resonance of a classic. — Goodreads

Matched will be released November 30, 2010 by Dutton Books a member of Penguin Group.

First Line Friday: Promise by Kristie Cook

I received this ARC in the mail just this morning and I read the first line and just had to share it with everyone. 🙂

The sensation of being watched clung to me like a spider web, invisible threads bristling the back of my neck and down my spine.

Promise by Kristie Cook

Alexis Ames has a life full of promise…but not all promises can be kept.
When Alexis Ames is attacked by creatures that can’t be real, she decides it’s time she learns who she really is, with or without the help of her mother, who guards their family’s secrets closely. After meeting the inhumanly attractive, multi-talented Tristan Knight, however, Alexis retreats behind her façade of normalcy…until she discovers he’s not exactly normal either. Then their secrets begin to unravel.
Their union brings hope and promise to her family’s secret society, the Angels’ army, and to the future of mankind. But it also incites a dangerous pursuit by the enemy – Satan’s minions and Tristan’s creators. After all, Alexis and Tristan are a match made in Heaven and in Hell. — Goodreads

The next line is cool too:

I brushed my fingers across my shoulders, as if I could drag the feeling off and flick it away.

First Line Friday: Spirit Bound (VA, Book 5) by Richelle Mead

This weeks “First Line Friday” comes from a long awaited release in the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead, Spirit Bound.

There’s a big difference between death threats and love letters—even if the person writing the death threats still claims to love you. –page 11, Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead

What an opening! 🙂 I’m currently on page 200 and I’m wondering where this is all going. 🙁 Not too much action so far and I have my ideas on where it’ll end up but I’m wanting “more”. 🙁

Spirit Bound was released this week.
