Kindle Fire! Plus 3 Additional New Kindle Devices!

Posted by The Cozy Reader

What an exciting morning! I sat at my PC this morning waiting in anticipation to hear what would be unveiled at the Amazon press conference held at 10:00 am. The rumors were that there would be a new tablet device unveiled.

The rumors would be correct! And there was more!

Kindle Fire

The Kindle Fire is a 7″ tablet that incorporates all kinds of media via wi-fi connectivity. It uses IPS display technology (used by iPads), has 8 GB of interanl storage (Free unlimited Amazon content storage via Amazon Cloud), weights 14.6 ounces and 8 hours of continous reading or 7.5 hours play battery life. It’s basically a smaller iPad without the 3G possibility with a MUCH smaller price tag: $199. (An iPad starts at $499 with 16 GB of storage, which is double what the Fire offers, so it’s compariable if you require more internal storage).

Fire will release on November 15th and pre-orders are available as of today with a first come first served. Get in line now!

Kindle Wi-Fi (no 3G option)

The Kindle has been redesigned! Say goodbye to the keyboard and hello to a smaller, thinner version! This is truly a great deal! Only want an e-reader? The Kindle is just what you need in a perfect little package with a perfect little price: $79. (with Special Offers) (Without Special Offers you’d pay $109) . It’s so small it’ll fit in the back pocket of your jeans!

Kindle Touch Wi-fi & Touch 3G

Now do you want an e-reader with a bit of pizzazz? Love the feel of a touch screen tablet but don’t want to fork over the extra cash for one? Then the Touch is probably what you’d like. It has a pretty incredible touch screen (I’d suggest watching the video on Amazon). It has a very cool new feature called X-ray. It will automatically download extra information from Wikipedia and Shelfari about the book so you can access it whenever you want with a simple touch of the screen.

This new technology is amazing. And so is the price!

Kindle Touch Wi-fi: $99 with Special Offers or $139 without Special Offers! Under $100 for a very cool e-reader device.

Kindle Touch 3G: $149 with Special Offers or $189 without Special Offers.

I like the idea of the Fire but I’m wondeirng if it’s better than the iPad? I don’t own an iPad but I’d love to. I hate the cost of the iPad but it’s comparible because it has double the amount of internal storage as the Fire. I probably won’t buy this quite yet but it’s really cool to see technology advancing!

Check out all the Kindle devices!

Oooh! Thanks for sharing. I almost forgot about the conference and I hadn’t looked it up yet. This is quite exciting news. I’m really curious now as to how Barnes and Noble will react.

Yup, some pretty low price points and nifty updates to the devices. :)

I’m definitely in favor of bringing the price of ereaders down so everybody has access to ebooks. However, I’m not so sure how successful amazon will be as a “cheaper replacement” for ipads:

    * Will amazon have aps?

    * Will the speakers be improved to play those shows (because I honestly think the current kindle speakers make everything sound too tinny)?

    * Will amazon ever make it easy to transfer lit, epub, and pdf books (yes, you can email it to yourself with “Convert” in the subject line, but the formatting still gets all screwed up.

But still, news in the right direction!

Yup, they have apps! They’ve had apps for a while now, Android apps I believe, not 100% sure.

I haven’t used the speakers on my Kindle before so I have no idea how well they work, or don’t work. :)

The Fire has capability for the following files: Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively, Audible (Audible Enhanced (AA, AAX)), DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, non-DRM AAC, MP3, MIDI, OGG, WAV, MP4, VP8. So I’d hope the easy of getting them on there is good.

Great things to consider of course!

Hmm looks like they’ve really been refurbing to compete with the HP tablet and the ipad. I’ve got one of the latter and a Sony ereader, and a friend and my former roommate both have Kindles, so we’re always comparing/contrasting pros and cons of each of the technologies. Their biggest complaint on the Kindle was the user unfriendly interface when uploading books bought anywhere beside amazon.

Here’s hoping all that’s resolved in these new versions. Like I said, anything that gets ereaders to be more commercially viable is a good thing to me!

Kindle Fire sounds like it will be in a lot of people’s Christmas stockings this year Jess:)

I’m assuming so! It’s WAY cheaper than the iPad and kids won’t care too much about the differences. I wouldn’t mind one that’s for sure!
