In My Mailbox: Week 16 & 17

A slow two weeks but that’s okay because I have such a TBR pile it’s not even funny!

Let’s start with the bought books because this one is the most important!

Bought

Lover Mine: A Novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward

John Matthew has come a long way since he was found living among humans, his vampire nature unknown. Taken in by The Brotherhood, no one could guess what his true history was-or his true identity.
Xhex has long steeled herself against the attraction to John Matthew. Until fate intervenes and she discovers that love, like destiny, is inevitable. –Amazon.com

I’m slooowly making my way through this massive installment.

Won

The Poison Eaters: and Other Stories by Holly Black

I won this on GetGlue in their Guru giveaways.

In her debut collection, New York Times best-selling author Holly Black returns to the world of Tithe in two darkly exquisite new tales. Then Black takes readers on a tour of a faerie market and introduces a girl poisonous to the touch and another who challenges the devil to a competitive eating match. These stories have been published in anthologies such as 21 Proms, The Faery Reel, and The Restless Dead, and have been reprinted in many “Best of” anthologies. The Poison Eaters is Holly Black’s much-anticipated first collection of stories, and her ability to stare into the void—and to find humanity and humor there—will speak to young adult and adult readers alike. –Amazon.com

Bite Me: A Love Story by Christopher Moore
I won this on author Nicole Peeler’s blog. I’m pretty sure this is a series. Anyone read this series? Should I start at the beginning? Let me know!

The city of San Francisco is being stalked by a huge shaved vampyre cat named Chet, and only I, Abby Normal, emergency backup mistress of the Greater Bay Area night, and my manga-haired love monkey, Foo Dog, stand between the ravenous monster and a bloody massacre of the general public.

Whoa. And this is a love story? Yup. ‘Cept there’s no whining. See, while some lovers were born to run, Jody and Tommy were born to bite. Well, reborn, that is, now that they’re vampires. Good thing theirs is an undying love, since their Goth Girl Friday, Abby Normal, imprisoned them in a bronze statue.

Abby wants to be a bloodsucking fiend, too, but right now she’s really busy with other stuff, like breaking in a pair of red vinyl thigh-high Skankenstein® platform boots and wrangling her Ph.D.-candidate boyfriend, Steve (the love monkey). And then there’s that vampire cat Chet, who’s getting bigger and smarter—and thirstier—by the minute. Abby thought she and Steve could handle the kitty cat on their own, mais non . . .

Before you can say "OMG! WTF?" Tommy and Jody are sprung from captivity, and join forces with Abby, Steve, the frozen-turkey-bowling Safeway crew, the Emperor of San Francisco and his trusty dogs Lazarus and Bummer, Abby’s gay Goth friend Jared, and SF’s finest Cavuto and Rivera to hunt big cat and save the city. And that’s when the fun really begins. –Amazon.com

A Breath of Magic by Tracy Madison

I wasn’t expecting this but I love the cover! Something about those lips!

Do you believe in magic? Chloe Nichols does. As the owner of the New Age store, the Mystic Corner, Chloe has always walked in a world where anything can happen. But she has no idea how potent the Gypsy magic flowing through her veins is, and she is unprepared for the winds of change that Fate is blowing her way. Now, Chloe is waiting for the perfect millisecond to exhale so she can set things straight. Hopefully, all Fate needs is a puff in the right direction… –Tracy Madison’s website

Nightshade by Andrea Cremer

I can’t wait to start this mammoth of a book! 464 pages! BUT I just flipped through it and each chapter page gets its own page, so 35 pages are new chapter pages. Wow.

While other teenage girls daydream about boys, Calla Tor imagines ripping out her enemies’ throats. And she wouldn’t have it any other way. Calla was born a warrior and on her eighteenth-birthday she’ll become the alpha female of the next generation of Guardian wolves. But Calla’s predestined path veers off course the moment she saves the life of a wayward hiker, a boy her own age. This human boy’s secret will turn the young pack’s world upside down and forever alter the outcome of the centuries-old Witches’ War that surrounds them all. –Andrea Cremer’s website

What did you get?

That’s what I got. Again, if anyone has read that Christopher Moore series let me know if I should start at the beginning!

IMM is host by Kristi over at The Story Siren.

  1. Lover Mine is next up for me to read. I’ve been hearing so many good things, I can’t wait to start it.

  2. Great books this week! Definitely looking forward to your review of Nightshade!! It looks like it’s going to be a good one! Enjoy all your books!

  3. So many good books! I haven’t read any of them yet except Bite Me, that I just finished yesterday. It is from a series and I had only read You Suck (the previous book) although I plan to go back and start with the first book. Normally I start a series at the beginning but I didn’t realize this was one at the time. Even though I started with You Suck it was funny and had enough helpful references so I could still enjoy the story. I don’t think I would have enjoyed Bite Me by itself though. There are too many bizarre things that wouldn’t have made sense to me. Hope that helps some. Enjoy!

    1. Thanks Wrighty! I will have to pick up the first 2 books first then. 🙂 I don’t enjoy being confused. 🙂
