In My Mailbox: Week 46

In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren.

Nothing new this week except the previously mentioned eGalleys from Simon & Schuster, which I was thrilled about getting until I realized that my iPhone app Bluefire Reader doesn’t work with the original iPhone, which I have. Sad smile This has some benefits because I might upgrade to a 3G or the iPhone 4.

Therefore, if I want to read these eGalleys I have to do it from my laptop at home, which is not where I’d prefer reading. So, while I have the access to read these titles, I might not actually read them because of being limited to the PC.

In other news I’m getting super excited about the holidays! The local radio station started their 24/7 Christmas music on Friday. My pregnancy hormones are getting the best of me. I’m finding myself all teary eyed over the simplest things!

We hung up a few Christmas lights yesterday and hope to finish later today.

Are you getting ready for Christmas? Black Friday is nearly here and I’m looking forward to seeing some of the online deals!

In My Mailbox: Week 43

In My Mailbox is hosted by Krisit of The Story Siren.

Only two books this week! I’m excepting at least one from NetGalley but my request hasn’t been approved yet.

Review

Past Midnight (Harlequin Teen) by Mara Purnhagen

224 pages, Harlequin, (2010-09-01)

$9.99 (Amazon.com)

Let me set the record straight. My name is Charlotte Silver and I’m not one of those paranormal-obsessed freaks you see on TV…no, those would be my parents, who have their own ghost-hunting reality show. And while I’m usually roped into the behind-the-scenes work, it turns out that I haven’t gone unnoticed. Something happened on my parents’ research trip in Charleston—and now I’m being stalked by some truly frightening other beings. Trying to fit into a new school and keeping my parents’ creepy occupation a secret from my friends—and potential boyfriends—is hard enough without having angry spirits whispering in my ear. All I ever wanted was to be normal, but with ghosts of my past and present colliding, now I just want to make it out of high school alive…. –Goodreads

Received an eARC from Harlequin Teen

Won

Scars by Cheryl Rainfield

250 pages, Westside Books, (2010-03-24)

$16.95 (Amazon.com)

Kendra, fifteen, hasn’t felt safe since she began to recall devastating memories of childhood sexual abuse, especially because she still can’t remember the most important detail– her abuser’s identity. Frightened, Kendra believes someone is always watching and following her, leaving menacing messages only she understands. If she lets her guard down even for a minute, it could cost Kendra her life. To relieve the pressure, Kendra cuts; aside from her brilliantly expressive artwork, it’s her only way of coping. Since her own mother is too self-absorbed to hear her cries for help, Kendra finds support in others instead: from her therapist and her art teacher, from Sandy, the close family friend who encourages her artwork, and from Meghan, the classmate who’s becoming a friend and maybe more. But the truth about Kendra’s abuse is just waiting to explode, with startling unforeseen consequences. Scars is the unforgettable story of one girl’s frightening path to the truth. –Goodreads

Won this over on A Good Addiction. Thanks Kari!

In My Mailbox: Week 35

In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren.

Only one book received for review this week.

Review

The Limit by Kristen Landon

304 pages, Aladdin, (2010-09-07)

$15.99 (Amazon.com)

An eighth grade girl was taken today . . .

With this first sentence, readers are immediately thrust into a fast-paced thriller that doesn’t let up for a moment. In a world not too far removed from our own, kids are being taken away to special workhouses if their families exceed the monthly debt limit imposed by the government. Thirteen-year-old Matt briefly wonders if he might be next, but quickly dismisses the thought. After all, his parents are financially responsible, unlike the parents of those other kids. As long as his parents remain within their limit, the government will be satisfied and leave them alone. But all it takes is one fatal visit to the store to push Matt’s family over their limit—and to change his reality forever.

What a scary premise, huh? I’m looking forward to reading this one. :)

In My Mailbox: Week 30

This week was an awesome week. Why? Because the awesome people at Harlequin paired up with NetGalley and offered a limited amount of eBooks of ALPHA by Rachel Vincent to those that helped promote Rachel’s recent bus tour.

It was so easy to promote and the prize for doing so seemed like overkill and totally awesome I was in awe at first. So another great big thank you to Harlequin, Rachel, and NetGalley for the amazing reading pleasure because I read through it as fast as I could, which wasn’t fast enough.

Won

Alpha (Shifters Book 6) by Rachel Vincent

480 pages, Mira, (2010-10-01)

$7.99 (Amazon.com)

King of the Screwups by K. L. Going

312 pages, Graphia, (2010-05-03)

$7.99 (Amazon.com)

Liam Geller is Mr. Popularity. Everybody loves him. He excels at sports; he knows exactly what clothes to wear; he always ends up with the most beautiful girls in school. But he’s got an uncanny ability to screw up in the very ways that tick off his father the most.
When Liam finally kicked out of the house, his father’s brother takes him in. What could a teenage chick magnet possibly have in common with his gay, glam rocker, DJ uncle who lives in a trailer in upstate New York? A lot more than you’d think. And when Liam attempts to make himself over as a nerd in a desperate attempt to impress his father, it’s his "aunt" Pete and the guys in his band who convince Liam there’s much more to him than his father will ever see. — Goodreads

Bought

Jealousy (Strange Angels, Book 3) by Lili St. Crow

316 pages, Razorbill, (2010-07-29)

$9.99 (Amazon.com)

Obviously I consumed ALPHA and I did the same thing with Jealousy yesterday. I love me a kick ass woman character. Dru never fails to make me proud.
