Paper Hearts

Paper Hearts by S.R. Savell

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this book.

The summary had me sucked right in. Teen angst is a great thing and S.R. Savell writes it like a pro.

The characters are great. Michelle was a tad hard to like at first. She is rough around the edges. We learn that she is an unreliable narrator (hint, hint).

Nathaniel is amazing. I was expecting him to be supernatural or something because of his size and his presence. I almost wish some of the chapters were from his point of view. Michelle sums Nate up nicely:

You’re like Mary Poppins with a penis.

— page 29

Michelle and Nathaniel bond and create an odd but great friendship. That friendship hovers near a line of relationship. There is major chemistry between the two. Michelle has had a tough childhood and Nathaniel even more so.

We meet Nathaniel’s grandmother. She is super cool and added some awesomeness to the story.

Plot wise the story was strong. Since Michelle is an unreliable narrator it gets tricky towards the end. Some scenes are retold a few times because Michelle doesn’t want us to know the truth the first time, so pay attention! The truth that we learn is of a tough subject. This subject is rated R and not appropriate for a young audience.

I can’t say that I love the title, though the cover matches that perfectly.
I enjoyed this book very much. The sweet beginning won me over and the end, though traumatic, was handled with care and written perfectly.

Why We Broke Up
Why We Broke Up [amazon_link id=”0316127264″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Why We Broke Up[/amazon_link] by Daniel Handler

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Good book but I didn’t like the ending.

It’s pretty much like the title says: “Why We Broke Up”. You get no more and no less.
Very good writing style and I loved the clip art in the beginning of the chapters. Was very cool to see them in color on my Kindle app.

Louder Than Words
Louder Than Words by Laurie Plissner

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a very good mystery.

I enjoyed Ben so, so, so much. Sasha was a great character and I enjoyed learning her story.
The supporting characters were also very important and very nice additions. Jules, Sasha’s Aunt and Uncle as well as Ben’s parents were great. The jocks were major A-holes.

I *sorta* felt like this was a Twilight fan fiction. I really couldn’t help it; especially in the beginning.

I do recommend this though. I enjoyed it very much.

Defy
Defy by Sara B. Larson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Defy by Sara B. Larson was an amazing read!

All of the characters were amazing. Each one of them warmed my heart. Except for the bad guys, obviously. But those villains were some of the best out there.

Alex is the perfect strong female lead character. What she overcomes left me with feelings of warmth and strength to conquer my own fears. She is so strong and kicks some major booty.

Prince Damian has a few tricks up his sleeve. His story is similar to Alex’s and we grow to love him.

The story is beautifully told with lots of action and surprises. The scenes are full of detail and painted the picture perfect.

I look forward to the next book in this series. I highly recommend this to lovers of epic fantasy and female heroins.

Many reviews mention the “love triangle” but for me it didn’t feel like a negative love triangle. I almost didn’t read it because of the love triangle but I am SO glad that I did.

Ten Tiny Breaths
Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved Kacey and how she took control of her and her sister’s lives. It’s not easy making that big decision and will very little equity to make it all happen on too.

If you’ve read the summary for this book then you get a pretty good picture of what happens plot wise.

Trent is amazing. His flaws are real and make him worthy. His past gets revealed quite nicely and the way everything sort of mashes together is amazing. K.A. did an amazing job of interweaving these character’s lives. Kacey’s neighbor and her daughter and even the landlord were incredible secondary characters.

My favorite scene was the shower scene. ;) It was incredibly funny, sexy and maybe just a bit unrealistic but thoroughly entertaining.

The ending was great. I am looking forward to the follow-up book in their series and was pleasantly surprised to already see a forth book listed on Goodreads!

Alienated
Alienated by Melissa Landers

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a fun book.
The alien characters were fascinating.
The beginning was a bit cheesy to me but that quickly changed once things started moving.

The first time Cara meets Aelyx is unforgettable. One of my favorite scenes ever!

I kept expecting the book to end while reading. I was pleasantly surprised by how much information was revealed and how much time was covered. Melissa did an awesome job at keeping me enthralled and engaged.

The supporting characters were interesting but wholly annoying. Cara’s parents, however, were awesome, especially Cara’s dad.

I am looking forward to the second book. Since I read this one way before it was even released I have to wait so much longer for the second book!

Thank you Disney-Hyperion for allowing me to read and review this well written title.
