Review: Ascendant (Killer Unicorns, #2) by Diana Peterfreund
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
First, I must say that I LOVED Rampant (link to my review). Like, really, loved it. It was total kick-ass and full of awesome. If there’s one thing I love it’s a strong, hard-headed female lead character that doesn’t give up and Astrid is so strong and fearless in the first book.
That kinda falls to the way side in this second installment. While Rampant was unforgettable Ascendant was the complete opposite and forgettable. It was almost tiresome to get through and while I had hope that it would all end well, it was very, very disappointing.
I enjoy stories that have strong and positive conclusions. I ended Ascendant feeling lost and unfulfilled. I wanted Diana to end this on a positive note and with questions answered. There are so, so many unanswered questions it’s not even funny!
Another aspect that I had an issue with was the flow. Rampant flowed beautifully and ended very well.
To say I was disappointed in Ascendant would be putting it nicely. I hope that Diana plans to make her next novel better because I want to read it, what ever it is that she writes about.
I was also thinking that since I was reading the ARC edition that maybe, just maybe, the final edition would be different. I’ll have to pick a copy up at Borders sometime and have a peek at it.
